Career Consultant Becomes Army Reserve Officer

Graeme Taylor, a freelance career consultant for the OA, recently commissioned.

Graeme had a long career in the Army as a Royal Engineer. In the latter part of his regular career he focused on outdoor education and performance coaching, before leaving to start his own business as an executive coach and management consultant. Graeme has worked with many high profile organisations, including Ernst & Young, Carillion, Ministry of Defence, NHS and the Home Office.

Update from Supporting Wounded Veterans

LIBOR: SWV are extremely grateful to the LIBOR fund for granting them their full funding application for £1,054,800. The grant will finance their Pain Management Programme for a further three years.

SWV Ski Week: SWV have now completed their Veteran interviews for their 2018 Ski Week, and have selected 26 Veterans (out of 180 applications) to join their Skihabiliation programme next March.

Carol Concert: On 4th December, SWV held their first Carol Concert at St Peter’s Church, Eaton Sq. With over 500 tickets sold and a waiting list of over 100, they are happy to announce that this will now become an annual event.

RAF Association Hotel Manager shortlisted for national award

RAF Association Hotel Manager Colin Lee was shortlisted for a national Leadership Award from the 3rd Sector Care Awards. The award celebrates someone who demonstrates an outstanding contribution to care and service excellence.

Mark Shields, RAF Association Head of Care and Housing Services nominated Colin for the award. After seeing the level of support and team spirit at the Association’s Wings Breaks hotel Rothbury House, Northumberland he said of the nomination: “Colin was nominated for the Award because of his total commitment to care and outstanding leadership that has significantly contributed to excellence within a culture that puts people and quality first.

The visit was part of Mark’s ongoing commitment and personal interest in the military community, which he is closely affiliated with.

Navy veteran visits HMS Belfast after sailing on her more than 60 years ago

George Ward, a 90 year old helped by SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity enjoyed a day on the ship where he served

George ‘Sharky’ Ward, from Caversham in Berkshire, fulfilled his wish to return to the ship where he served in the Royal Navy. The ship played a big part in his time posted in Egypt in the 1950’s – and brings back many memories.

During his 14 years in the Royal Navy, George was posted in many locations including the Mediterranean and Africa. Serving at the rank of Petty Officer, he was a Naval Gunner.

Aldershot housing development for Veterans moves a step closer

Stoll, the leading provider of supported housing for vulnerable and disabled Veterans, celebrated an important milestone at its latest bespoke housing development for Veterans, with the first roof tile being laid in the presence of Centenary Lodge’s first new resident.

The £10 million development, on schedule to open in Spring 2018, will create 34 much-needed homes in Aldershot for people with support needs who have served in the Armed Forces.

Andrea Howlett, Stoll’s Director of Housing and Development, was joined by Councillor Jacqui Vosper, former Mayor of Rushmoor, to lay the first roof tile.
