Glen Art created a show garden at the Gardening Scotland Show in Edinburgh

We approached Robert Ross to design the garden and partnered with CWGC and the Wilfred Owen Association to create a garden called ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF REMEMBRANCE. It commemorated the centenary of Wilfred Owen’s time in Edinburgh and of the CWGC.

The garden won the Peoples’ Choice Award as well as a Silver Award. It was created by veterans with PTSD from Glen Art working with the gardening team from the CWGC.

Prince Harry unveils the UK team for the Invictus Games Toronto 2017

Prince Harry, Patron of the Invictus Games Foundation, has this morning unveiled the team of 90 competitors selected to represent the UK at the Invictus Games Toronto 2017.

The 90-strong team of wounded, injured and sick (WIS) serving military personnel and veterans came together for the first time since selection at the Tower of London. Prince Harry met the team ahead of the forthcoming Invictus Games in September, and posed for the first official team photograph.

In February 2017 an artist and photgrapher, both ex-British Army, teamed up with an award winning documentary film maker to work alongside wildlife rangers in the Zambian bush. This summer they are creating a unique insight into the little known world of anti-poaching to raise over £40k for the men and women protecting African wildlife.

Mutual Support – Cycling 100 miles

In early February 17 my brother asked me if I would accompany him on a high profile ‘Sportive cycle event’ where he and some friends intend to raise awareness for BLESMA, knowing I was not very experienced at cycling I hesitantly agreed. He then told me the ride was 100 miles through the Lincolnshire countryside and will take place on the 6 May so I would need to get my skates on and start training. My initial thoughts were, ‘nightmare, what have I let myself in for’. Training for the event was always going to be difficult, balancing it with work and the inclement weather, more importantly, I didn’t have a bike. My son generously loaned me his ‘Time Trials bike’, I bought a Turbo Trainer and set them up in my conservatory where I could get used to the bike without embarrassing myself on the roads and for somewhere to train during the bad weather.

Cobseo is proud to be a partner of Contact, a group of military charities and other entities working with the NHS and the MOD to simplify the way the military community can find support with their mental health and wellbeing. Contact has recently relaunched their website www.contactarmedforces.co.uk making online help seeking easier for those in need.

A panel discussion chaired by General Sir John McColl (Chairman, Cobseo – The Confederation of Service Charities) will be an opportunity to engage with experts to discuss what bridges will help service children make smooth and confident transitions.
