Thousands Turn Out to Witness the Historic Riding of the Marches

Record numbers of spectators turned out to witness the historic Edinburgh Riding of the Marches.

The ride, which took place on Sunday 17th March 2017, saw approximately 25,000 people lining the beautiful cobbled Edinburgh streets to witness over 280 horses traversing the Royal Mile.

Steeped in history, the yearly ride is a spectacular re-enactment of the return of the Captain of the Trained Band to Edinburgh, following the tragic news of defeat at the battle of Flodden in 1513.

Royal Navy Electronic Technician Receives Herbert Lott Award for Inventive Mapping System

A talented Electronic Technician (ET) has been awarded the Herbert Lott Innovation and Invention Award for pioneering a ground-breaking mapping system on-board HMS Queen Elizabeth.

ET WE Daniel Gibbs received the award after creating an advanced network monitoring and defect identification capability which allows Network Group and Duty Weapon Engineers to identify real-time issues with the Internal Network Electronic Infrastructure.

Created in 1930, the Herbert Lott Naval Trust Fund was established in order to recognise those in the naval service who have significantly improved the way in which the Naval and Marines Forces operate.

Recruit for Spouses’ Lisa Grieveson – receives award at the Resolution Dinner

Congratulations to our ‘Recruit for Spouses’ (RfS) representative north of the border in Helensburgh, Lisa Grieveson, who was recognised with a special award at the 2017 Resolution Dinner – the submarine ‘Oscars’ – last night, Thursday 5th October. An inaugural awards event hosted by Rear Admiral Submarines on board HMS Neptune, the all-ranks dinner celebrated outstanding performances, both team and individual, in a range of Service categories.

Lisa’s accolade, the Recognition Award, sponsored by the Navy Families Federation (NFF), exists to honour inspiring individuals who have gone above and beyond in support of the Naval community.

Two-day ‘Supporting Seafarers’ conference coincided with launch of ten-year research report

Ten years on from the publication in 2007 of ‘Supporting Seafarers and their Families: Challenges for the Future’, a new report, ‘Navigating Change – A Review of the UK Maritime Welfare Charity Sector’ is being released at a major conference in London on 16-17 October.

Despite its huge scope, from small fishing vessels to large container ships, naval vessels and superyachts, the maritime welfare sector is one of the few industries to attempt to research and define the needs of its communities in order to better allocate charitable resources.

The Mountbatten Festival of Music 2018

The Mountbatten Festival of Music is to change its performance times to enable more people the opportunity to attend this spectacular event. For the first time, 2018 will see a Saturday afternoon performance beginning at 2.00pm. It is hoped that this matinee performance will allow people to travel to London from all over the country and still be able to get home the same day. We also hope to attract younger people to the concert so why don’t you consider bringing the children or grandchildren.

Prince Harry Supports Military Friendly Organisations

Prince Harry presented government awards to organisations that offer the Armed Forces community employment and training opportunities.

The Prince was joined by Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon at a recent Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) awards ceremony. They gave 33 Gold Awards to employers that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support for the Armed Forces community. The recipients included Airbus, Combat Pest Control, Balfour Beatty, General Dynamics UK, Network Rail, the Metropolitan Police Service and Transport for London.
