Photocall in Stirling – Poppy Cascade from Wallace Monument to remember Arras fallen

Media Invite/Photocall: Tuesday, 16th May 2017, at 11am – Tens of thousands of poppy petals to cascade down from Wallace Monument. Poppyscotland will release 46,000 Poppy petals from the top of the National Wallace Monument, in Stirling, to commemorate the end of the Battle of Arras. At precisely 11am on 16th May, the poppies will fall with each petal representing a Scottish soldier who lost their life or were wounded during the conflict.

Blesma, The Limbless Veterans chosen as Inter-services T20 cricket charity for Lords showdown

Military charity Blesma, The Limbless Veterans are very proud to announce that they will be the Inter-services T20 Cricket charity of the year for this year’s tournament.

The round-robin series between the British Army, the Royal Navy and the Royal Air Force will be held on Thursday 08 June at Lords Cricket Ground in north London.

Local team completes dog sledding challenge in subzero temperatures to support the Poppy Appeal

A dynamic young team of four from the local company Signal, based in Cheltenham, have returned safely after enduring a five-day dog sledding challenge in Sweden to support The Royal British Legion.

The group sledded across snow-filled hilly terrain, covering 180km over the five days of trekking, in temperatures ranging from -5C down to -20C. Each group member was aided by a team of loyal huskies to lead them through the snow-covered forests and mountains of Swedish Lapland. The adventure began in Kiruna, Sweden’s northernmost city, situated 145km north of the Arctic Circle.

Toby Carvery is delighted to announce its charity partnership with The Royal British Legion, which it will be supporting with fundraising initiatives over the next two years.

Toby Carvery’s across the UK will be taking part in the fundraising initiative, adding a special charity pudding to their menus with 25p from each pudding sale being donated to The Legion. The jam and coconut sponge was voted for by Toby Carvery’s fans on Facebook to be the official charity pudding and received over 500 entries.

New Reminiscence Café launches at Arboretum during Dementia Awareness Week

On Friday 19 May, the National Memorial Arboretum, in Staffordshire will host its first Memory Lane Café, during Dementia Awareness Week, providing a new forum for people living with dementia, carers, and their friends and family. The free of charge session will run from 10.30am to 12.00pm, using objects to stimulate senses and aid people in recalling prior experiences.

Big Yellow Storage offers helping hand to Royal British Legion

Big Yellow Storage in Sheffield have provided free space to the local branch of the Royal British Legion to store thousands of poppies.

Big Yellow Manager Ed Taylor said: “We heard that the Royal British Legion in Sheffield was struggling to find storage space so we decided to see if we could help. We spoke to them about their requirements and we’ve been able to provide them with some really good space at zero cost to the charity.”

Armed Forces Veterans in Port Talbot set to benefit from grant from The Royal British Legion to the Bulldogs Boxing & Community Activities Centre

A grant of £ 24,917 from The Royal British Legion fund will enable Bulldogs Boxing & Community Activities Centre to boost its dedicated employment support team for veterans at its base in Fenbrook Close, Port Talbot. A service will now be available throughout the week to tackle the issues faced by veterans. The Bulldogs started as a traditional boxing club but over the years has evolved into a thriving Social Hub providing a wide range of support through their Five Pillar Programme.

The Royal British Legion welcomes funding to ensure veterans get full value of their war pensions in Wales

Veterans who receive social care in Wales will now get the full value of their war disablement pensions thanks to a new £300,000 allocation by the Welsh Government. This follows a campaign by The Royal British Legion, which highlighted a discrepancy that saw certain awards to veterans injured in service reduced to cover some of their social care costs.

New Chairman of Help 4 Homeless Veterans

Doncaster Councillor John Healy (Labour Balby South) a former social housing manager in North Lincolnshire prior to retirement recently took over Chairmanship of Help 4 Homeless Veterans a local charity that supports former members of HM Forces in need of emergency housing. John has served on the committee since November 2015 and was voted as Chair at the recent AGM of the trustees.
