Nick Hartley was a senior officer in the RAF and now works in cyber security for BT.

Tell me about your military career
I joined the RAF as an engineer straight after graduating from Manchester University, having been in the University Air Squadron. I served for 29 years and left in January 2018. I completed three tours as a Group Captain in Joint Forces Command, I was previously appointed Deputy Director of the Advanced Command and Staff Course at the Defence Academy and then became Head of Capability Development for Cyber, Cryptography and Influence operations in Joint Forces Command at Northwood.

AFF celebrates visa success on behalf of F&C Army families

The Army Families Federation (AFF) is delighted that after five years of lobbying on their behalf, Foreign & Commonwealth (F&C) Army families should now find the process of applying for a visa to enter the UK much easier and fairer, thanks to the addition of an ‘Armed Forces’ option on the form.

Since 2013, when the new Armed Forces immigration rules came into effect, all non-EEA family members of soldiers wishing to apply for a visa to enter the UK have had to use an online form.

The Veterans’ Pain Clinic – Next appointments available Monday 21st May 2018

The Veterans Pain Clinic is free of charge to all veterans who are able to provide proof of service. The costs will be covered by the Hospitals’ Military Grants Fund charity.

The consultant is Dr Dominic Aldington. Having served in the Royal Army Medical Corps he was the Subject Matter Expert in Pain to the Surgeon General and was responsible for organising pain relief from the point of injury until a casualty left the service.

Army family focus for AFF additional needs events

The Army Families Federation (AFF) is pleased to announce a serious of additional needs support groups aimed at increasing Army families’ wellbeing and confidence through increased support.
Thanks to funding from ABF, The Soldiers’ Charity, these new groups will not only support and empower families who have children with additional needs and/or disability, but will also allow AFF to develop their understanding of what support is needed, and what gaps in provision families are experiencing.
