Read more3 night break for military families with additional needs children taking applications
As we enter the New Year, SSAFA is excited to propose a new pilot for the Family Break. This new format will be open exclusively to military families who have children additional needs and disabilities. It offers a weekend away at the Calvert Trust Exmoor on 23rd March 2018, for which there are 30 places.
Read moreHelp for Heroes has released new research which reveals that one in four (23 per cent) partners or family members of an Armed Services Veteran or Service Person state that their own wellbeing and mental health has been directly affected as a result of their family member’s situation. Many are suffering in silence with 16 per cent saying they would try to cope with any issues alone, with only 5 per cent saying they would seek help from a mental health professional.

Read moreThe RAF Association is preparing to send its 100th air cadet flying, with its 2018 Flying Scholarship programme. Coinciding with the RAF centenary year, six air-minded youths will be awarded flight training including the 100th recipient of the Flying Scholarship. However, cadets’ keen to apply must hurry, the closing date for all entries is 31 January 2018.
Through the scholarship programme, air cadets are given the opportunity to take to the skies, with one air cadet awarded 35 hours flight training in a light aircraft. Five runners-up will each receive 12 hours.
Read moreThe Rainbow Centre childcare facility at RAF Marham officially opened an extension to the building this week enabling them to care for more children on a day to day basis.
In 2016 it became apparent that the Rainbow Centre would need to have an extension built due to the increased demand following the introduction of increased free childcare funding from 15 hours to 30 hours. The Rainbow Centre, rated as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, provides full and part time childcare for more than 400 children from RAF Marham and the surrounding area and employs over 70 staff.

Read moreForces in Mind Trust (FiMT) has awarded £174,737 to Shared Intelligence and NatCen, to research how organisations, excluding Local Authorities and Government departments, are delivering pledges under the Armed Forces Covenant in Great Britain.
The decision to commission this research came about from the impact of FiMT’s Our Community-Our Covenant report and the desire to understand delivery of the Armed Forces Covenant more widely. Shared Intelligence, in partnership with NatCen, were appointed to deliver this research following a competitive tender process.
