Research shows Service children to be significantly underrepresented at university

Service children’s experiences may often give them skills and attributes valued by universities, but research by the University of Winchester has shown Service children to be significantly underrepresented in our Higher Education institutions and the Service Children’s Progression (SCiP) Alliance is working to find out more. Following the Alliance’s work, the new Office For Students recommends that HE institutions should be looking at support for this group’s access and success at HE. The Service Children’s Progression Alliance has a growing network of hubs across the UK bringing professionals together to make sure this cohort are supported in their education and empowered to make an informed choice about their future.

X-Forces Enterprise supported RMAS STEM Career Showcase

X-Forces Enterprise was honoured to be alongside The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS), The British Army and the Ministry of Defence (MOD) for a special Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Careers Showcase, which took place on Thursday 24th May 2018 at The RMAS. In attendance was the Rt. Hon Tobias Ellwood, Minister for Defence, People and Veterans; Brigadier Bill Wright, Commander and Lt. Col Deborah Taylor who was instrumental in organizing the event.

The Showcase event was a fantastic opportunity for girls from schools across the UK to see a wide range of STEM educational pathways and future employers.

Accountancy Tips – Expenses

In a business determining which expenses are allowable is important, as these items are included in the taxation calculation each year.
Key jargon: Tax deductible. Tax deductible items are allowable in calculating the profit of a business for taxation purposes (where profit equals income less expenses).
Deductibility: General Rule. Generally, expenses that relate to earning income in a business are tax deductible. Private items are usually non-deductible.

Forces Media Academy Selects Students for Second Creative Media Production Course

A group of service leavers and veterans are setting their sights on a new career in the media industry, as they prepare to join the Forces Media Academy (FMA) in September.

They will be the second intake of students to embark on the Creative Media Production course at the Academy, which was established last year as part of the Services Sound & Vision Corporation (SSVC).

Director of the Forces Media Academy, Alistair Halliday, said: “The standard of applicants who undertook the comprehensive final selection was very high and their motivation and aptitude for creative media was impressive.
