The motivations and experiences of ex-Service personnel, Reservists and military spouses in self-employment have been historically under-researched. That’s why Forces in Mind Trust commissioned Warwick Institute for Employment Research at the University of Warwick QinetiQ and X-Forces to undertake an ambitious research project, so we can understand what more can be done to support the Armed Forces Community in their pursuit of self-employment.

OA Facebook Page Celebrates First Birthday

The OA Facebook Page was launched in July 2016, and is now a crucial way for us to engage with people.

It has 12,269 followers and has become an active hub for the transitioning and former officers’ community. We also use Facebook to reach a wider audience, including beyond the military sector. We share key stories, promote events and broadcast live to connect directly with our community in real time.

Over this last year Miramar, an executive search company based in Richmond, Surrey, has given fantastic support to Future for Heroes. Soldiering On Awards hold 2018 launch at MoD and announce X-Forces Partnership

Soldiering On Awards are delighted to announce the launch of the 2018 Awards – which this year will include 3 exciting new business categories in partnership with X-Forces. The official launch took place at a recent reception held at MoD Main Building, Whitehall. It was sponsored by Thales UK and had Awards Patron the Rt Hon Earl Howe PC, Deputy Leader of the House of Lords and Minister of State for Defence in attendance.

OA to develop new training programme with BITC to help employers become military friendly

The Officers’ Association is developing a new training programme, in conjunction with Business in the Community (BITC), which aims to support businesses to develop sustainable military employment programmes.

The structured training will help employers to understand the benefits of hiring ex-military personnel. According to research by Deloitte, the OA and FIMT, 72% of organisations with active ex-military recruitment programmes recommend employing veterans; 53% of organisations that employ veterans find they are promoted more quickly than other colleagues and 79% find they take less sick leave.
