Read moreAlabaré’s Gloucestershire Home for Veterans were delighted to welcome Commander of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, Lieutenant General Timothy Buchan Radford, CB, DSO, OBE to visit the service.
The visit came about after our padre LT-Col Grant-Jones of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps spoke of his desire to invite the commander to our services to demonstrate the excellent work carried out by our Gloucester team.
Alongside Lieutenant General Timothy Buchan Radford and Lt Col Grant-Jones, was Lt Col Richard Smith who is soon to be Padre to ARRC and Padre for our Gloucestershire Home as of August 2018.
Read moreAlabaré are delighted to announce that nearly £11,000 has been raised for ‘Welcome Packs’ for homeless Veterans going in to the new Wilton Hill Veterans Village. The funds have been raised by the churches of the Chalke Valley, through a series of initiatives as part of their Lent project.
The Welcome Packs will contain a variety of household items for vulnerable Veterans’ who are moving in to the development. They will contain everything a person needs from the mattress through to the mug.
The Wilton Hill Veterans Village is a pioneering initiative that will boast 44 flats for ex-service personnel and will also include enterprise space and access for Veterans to engage in training and employment support.

The ground-breaking strategy has been commissioned by the Defence Secretary and today it will be confirmed that a new Veterans Unit with input from across Whitehall will be created.
The Veterans Unit will champion the changing needs of the ex-service community and ensure action is taken to meet these.

Read moreThis spring, Veterans’ Gateway has partnered with Shelter, the UK’s leading housing and homelessness charity to raise awareness of some of the key issues faced by the Armed Forces community and how they can access the right information and help with their housing concerns.
A service launched last year, Veterans’ Gateway provides a first point of contact for veterans who need support, connecting them with the right organisation that can help on a range of issues including housing, finance, mental health and employment.

Housing advice and information was provided by HOS’s Engagement Manager, Fraser Gilmore, through briefing sessions organised last month at both HM Naval Base Clyde and Rosyth Dockyard. These sessions meant personnel and their families had the opportunity to learn more about their civilian housing options and ask questions about the Scottish housing market.

Celebrating its 175th anniversary year, the Queen Victoria Seamen’s Rest (QVSR) is coming to the end of an extensive refurbishment programme. The Royal British Legion provided a £50,000 grant last year to part-fund the renovation of the bedrooms.
