Our nation owes much to the men and women of its Armed Forces who give so much to defend our values and way of life. The conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq have highlighted these sacrifices. Today, the unveiling of a new memorial in Victoria Embankment Gardens, Westminster by Her Majesty The Queen, honours both the UK Armed Forces and civilians who served their country in the Gulf region from 1990 – 2015.

The Soldiers’ Charity awards Combat Stress a grant of £250,000

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity has awarded Combat Stress a grant of £250,000 to help provide occupational therapy within their treatment centres.

Combat Stress offers occupational therapy to all veterans undertaking a residential programme at one of their three treatment centres and over the past year have introduced occupational therapists to their community teams.

Prince Harry joins Veterans’ Mental Health Conference with Heads Together, King’s College, London – 16th March

Prince Harry will attend the Veterans’ Mental Health Conference at King’s College London on Thursday 16 March, where he will lead a panel discussion with three veterans on the benefits of having open conversations and getting the right support for a range of mental health issues.

New Forces in Mind Trust award: King’s College London to research secondary mental health treatment for ex-Service personnel

A grant of £158,999 has been awarded to King’s College London to conduct an 18-month feasibility study exploring the type of mental health problems UK veterans experience who actively access secondary mental health care, their pathway through treatment, the outcomes of the treatment they receive, and their socio-demographic profile. The project will compare and contrast these findings with non-veterans (ie the general population) who access the same services, as well as UK veterans who access veteran-specific mental health care services.

27th February 2017: Mission Motorsport, a charity which rebuilds the lives of wounded, injured and sick veterans and service personnel through motorsport, is celebrating its 5th birthday.

Over the past 5 years, Mission Motorsport has helped over 850 individuals and will celebrate its achievements with a track day at Goodwood Motor Circuit.

Deptherapy & Deptherapy Education runs 2nd Mental Health First Aid for the Armed Services Community Course

Fifteen members of the Deptherapy team including injured programme members attended the two day MHFA for the Armed Services Community held at Cantley House Hotel, Wokingham on 19/20 February 2017.

The course is a requirement for all Trustees, scuba instructors and divemasters selected to work as volunteers on the Deptherapy programme.

New guidance issued to NHS England commissioners to strengthen patient and public participation

A new guidance document on patient and public participation in armed forces has been published. The new framework is part of a suite of documents developed to strengthen patient and public participation in all of NHS England’s direct commissioning activities.

The new participation framework for Armed Forces provides practical guidance on the best ways to involve patients and the public in different services.
