Tide, hills and 106 miles were overcome by a team of six RAF triathletes to deliver the RAF100 baton to the RAF Benevolent Fund’s Princess Marina House on Sunday.
The stop was the latest in the 100-day relay which sees the commemorative baton travel around the country, visiting RAF stations and memorials on a mission to celebrate, commemorate and inspire the next generation.

Su Paine, 54, has pledged to walk no less than 2,500 miles for SSAFA – 6.85 miles a day – in a year after a volunteer from SSAFA’s Somerset branch helped her to uncover the dramatic story of her birth father, a former soldier. For Su, who was adopted as a baby, it has been an emotional journey.
Starting with her birth certificate Su was able to track her father, Corporal Nick White, as far as the Royal Sussex Regiment.

Friends, present and former staff and supporters of Broughton House attended a party for Oswald Dixon, whose cake was decorated with an RAF flag, badges and model aeroplanes.
Oswald came from Jamaica to join the RAF as an engineer during the Second World War. He remained in the service until he retired, teaching new recruits.

The prestigious Legion d’honneur medal was presented to Arthur for his contribution to the liberation of France during the Second World War. Arthur is a resident at The Royal Star & Garter Homes in Solihull, a Charity that provides specialist care for veterans and their partners who live with disability or dementia.
To celebrate Arthur’s award, the Home organised a tea party in his honour.

Read moreA blind veteran from Gwynedd has been nominated for a prestigious Soldiering On Award for his work with Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, from whom he also receives support.
Billy Baxter, 54, is the charity’s Rehabilitation and Liaison Officer in its training and rehabilitation centre in Llandudno. His role sees him mentor and motivate the charity’s beneficiaries. Regarding his nomination, Billy says: “It’s a great honour to be recognised in the Inspiration Award category among my fellow nominees, who themselves have done some truly extraordinary work.”
