The Taxi Charity For Military Veterans, formally known as The London Taxi Benevolent Association For War Disabled (LTBAFWD), was founded on the 17th February 1948 in London.
The Taxi Charity are a group of London taxi drivers who volunteer their services to take veterans on a range of trips. They span from day trips around Britain to historical spots throughout Europe such as: Normandy, Dunkirk, and Wageningen, Netherlands.
Read moreWorthing-based charity, The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home (QAHH) has received a grant of £50,000 from ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.
The extremely generous donation will go towards the cost of providing rehabilitation services to disabled Army veterans and their dependents who live at QAHH, over the next 12 months.
QAHH has been caring for disabled veterans since it was first established in 1919, and with no regular government funding, the charity must raise over £1.3 million each year to maintain its nursing and rehabilitation services for ex-Service personnel.
Read moreLast weekend Paul Bennett from Grantham completed the Rutland Marathon to raise funds for The Not Forgotten Association. He was inspired to take up this challenge by the support the Association has given to his brother John, a former Royal Navy engineer who suffers from a neurological disorder.
Paul said: “John has always been an inspiration to me with his athletic exploits, including ultra-running events. The NFA has been a positive support through John’s illness and I’ve always wanted to help them, so the marathon seemed a fitting tribute. This was the first time that I’d ran further than 20 miles. Being a 16-stone former rugby player and the wear and tear associated with that didn’t help.”

Away from the pressures of rehabilitation, work and family commitments, our beneficiaries have been able to unwind and enjoy some ‘me time’ in the beautiful surroundings. For one veteran this week is the first time he has been away anywhere since being injured in Afghanistan.

Read moreCare at The Royal Star & Garter Home in Solihull has been rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Only one per cent of care homes achieve this rating.
The Solihull Home, which was inspected by the CQC in July, cares for 60 veterans and their partners who live with disability or dementia, in state-of-the-art surroundings. The nursing, therapeutic and dementia care provided, together with a varied and engaging programme of activities, enable residents to remain independent and enjoy life.
Andrea Sutcliffe, Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, who has visited the Charity’s Surbiton Home, remarked on the result: “The quality of care which our inspectors found here was exceptional and I am very pleased that we can celebrate the service’s achievements. An outstanding service is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work and commitment. I would like to thank and congratulate everyone involved.”

Red, White and Blue Day is a national fundraising campaign for schools that raises money in support of the RAF Benevolent Fund, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. The money raised is split between the three long-established charities which all have close ties with our Armed Forces.
This year’s campaign will take place on Friday 6 October, with thousands of school children across the UK dressing up in red, white and blue in support of the men and women of the Armed Forces.

Defence Secretary Sir Michael Fallon gave a speech and officially opened Victory and Invictus Games Houses built by the Royal British Legion Industries.

Read moreA Second World War blind veteran from Churchill has been formally presented with the Chevalier de l’Ordre National de la Legion d’Honneur for his part in the liberation of France.
Peter Johnson, 91 and from Churchill, was presented with the prestigious honour by Josette Lebrat, the Honorary French Consul of Bristol, on behalf of French president Emmanuel Macron. The special ceremony took place at a reunion lunch in Bristol organised by Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, from whom Peter receives support.
Read moreThe Not Forgotten Association has recently run two highly successful breaks for groups of injured service men and women: a 4 day trek across Iceland for 22 people and an outdoor activity week in Scotland for 15 people.
Each group included veterans of all three services and a number of Marines undergoing rehabilitation
They represented partner charities and organisations such as Blind Veterans, SAMA82, Band of Brothers and Scottish Veterans; and campaigns from the Falklands to Afghanistan. Coincidentally, the youngest serviceman in each group was aged 22 and the oldest veteran was 62.
