Congratulations to 92 year old Royal Navy veteran Cyril Banks, who received a best Magazine Heroes Award on Tuesday 17th October, in recognition of all his fundraising efforts for the military community! Cyril dedicates much of his time to supporting the Armed Forces community and is a long-standing friend of the Association.

The Charity has drawn upon its wealth of experience in providing outstanding residential care to establish a complete day care package. The service will enable veterans access to the wide range of activities and therapies on offer at the Home as well as a host of other benefits on a daily basis.

Help for Heroes aims to help increasing numbers of veterans find their purpose once again, after it was revealed that in 2016/17, on average seven members of the Armed Forces were medically discharged each day – more than 200 per month. New data obtained by Freedom of Information Act request shows the annual figure for the number of men and women medically discharged from the British Armed Forces increased by 99% between 2010/11 and 2016/17.

Read moreFrom 19th – 28th November, eight Falklands veterans and twelve injured servicemen from more recent conflicts will embark on a 75 mile trek across the Falklands, to commemorate the 35th Anniversary of the Falklands War. Many of the injured servicemen we have met in recent years from the conflicts of Iraq and Afghanistan joined the military because of the Falklands conflict. They have met and made friends with Falklands veterans through attending the NFA’s events over the years.

The annual fundraising initiative, which raises vital funds for ourselves, The RAF Benevolent Fund and The Royal Navy, and Royal Marines Charity, helps us to promote awareness of the difficulties faced by Service families.
Read moreNaval Servicewomen and generations of former Wrens who served in support of the Royal Navy across the century gathered in HM Naval Base, Portsmouth at the end of September to celebrate 100 years since the Women’s Royal Naval Service commissioned in November 1917, during the First World War.
On Friday 29th September HMS Duncan, the sixth T45 class Air Defence Destroyer hosted an early evening reception for nearly 50 veterans and currently-serving women sailors.
Commander Eleanor Stack RN, HMS Duncan’s Commanding Officer and Captain Bill Oliphant RN, Captain of HM Naval Base, Portsmouth presided over an all-female RN Guard at the evening sunset ceremony, led by Guard Officer Lieutenant Jane Pizii RN. Ten per cent of HMS Duncan’s Ship’s Company are women, including the Logistic Officer, Navigating Officer, Medical Officer, and her most senior Engineering Warrant Officer.

Read moreIn November this year The Not Forgotten Association will be taking 20 veterans on a very special trip to mark the 35th Anniversary of the Falklands War. The group will follow the route of the British Task Force across the Island from Port San Carlos to Port Stanley, studying battlefield sites along the route, and paying homage those who fell or suffered injuries during or due to the conflict.
