Read moreThe RAF Benevolent Fund is delighted to announce our bid for £1m funding from the LIBOR fund has been approved by the Chancellor.
This grant will enable the Fund to respond to the needs of the serving RAF and their families by providing additional facilities and services on RAF stations to enable greater social engagement, better relationships and the provision of welfare facilities.
The Government’s decision was announced today during the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s autumn budget statement in the House of Commons.
Read moreRFEA – The Forces Employment Charity is delighted to announce that Air Chief Marshal Sir Andrew Pulford GCB CBE, former Chief of the Air Staff, has become our new Vice-Patron.
Sir Andrew was commissioned into the Royal Air Force in 1977 and after flying training, joined No 72 Squadron, flying Wessex helicopters. During his distinguished career he flew over 5,000 hours on both Wessex and Chinook helicopters. In addition to the UK and Germany, he saw operational service in Northern Ireland, the Falkland Islands, Lebanon, the Balkans and the Gulf. He also completed exchange tours with the Royal Navy’s Commando Helicopter Force and the Royal Australian Air Force.

One hundred years ago today saw the signing of the treaty which led to the end of hostilities in the First World War, but it was a covenant which was not to last.
A century on from that date and our Armed Forces and those who serve in them still command the respect of the people of Wales and remain a valued part of Welsh society. While defence matters are a responsibility of the UK Government, Wales also has a duty to provide the best support possible for those who have served or are serving in the military. The Armed Forces Covenant was enshrined in legislation in 2011.
Read moreA former RAF serviceman from Cumbria has won £9,750 on the RAF Association’s Wings Lotto rollover. 84 year-old Mr Byers joined the RAF in 1951, aged just 18, and served for four years in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe). He has been an Association member for 33 years and a Wings Lotto player since it started nine years ago.
Speaking of what it felt like to win the money, Mr Byers said: “It was a dream. When I was called up to be told I had won, I thought it was a con. I have been entering the Wings Lotto for many years, but never thought I would actually win – but you know what they say, you have to be in it to win it!”

The Prince of Wales laid a poppy wreath on behalf of the Queen, who watched for the first time from a Foreign Office balcony. She was joined by the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duchess of Cornwall. The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry also attended, alongside other members of the Royal Family.
Across the UK a two-minute silence was held, and poppy wreaths were laid at war memorials to remember those who died in conflict.
