Both centres were damaged by the disaster and have now been refurbished thanks to a gift of £48,000 from the 6th Gurkha Rifles (6GR) Regimental Trust to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Regiment in 2017.
Read moreAlmost 76 years ago, in the midst of World War Two, Lalbahadur Pun signed up to become a Gurkha. According to military records, Rifleman Lalbahadur Pun is 96 years old. In truth, he’s actually 92. As was common in the Second World War, Lal’s age was falsified so that he could sign up to become a Gurkha early. He was only 15 when he first joined the British Army in late 1941, following in his father’s footsteps.
After completing his training and being assigned to the 6th Gurkha Rifles, Lal was sent to fight in Burma.

The month-long fundraising initiative takes place throughout July, and includes in-house collections and a pub quiz!
The quiz will take place at The Fox, Arundel Road, Patching on Tuesday 18 July at 6.30pm. It costs £5 per person to enter, and this includes a cone of chips per person. On the night, there will also be a raffle and other games for you to participate in.

Veterans Scotland is delighted to announce that it is to receive a total of £75,000 from the Forces in Mind Trust, over the next three years, in order to engage with decision makers in statutory and third sector organisations across Scotland and inform them about those preparing to leave the Armed Forces and the ex-Service community and to encourage them to ensure that they are equipped to meet their obligations to the Armed Forces Covenant.
Read moreThis year’s Armed Forces Day is on Saturday, and, to mark the special occasion, Poppyscotland’s Inverness Welfare Centre is hosting an open day on Friday in recognition of the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community in Scotland.
The event, which runs from 11:30am to 3pm, is open to all serving or former members of the Armed Forces in the north of Scotland, including Reservists and family members, and aims to bring people together in an informal setting to learn more about what support is available and how to access it. There is also the opportunity to join the Legion Scotland Inverness Breakfast Club at 10am that same morning.

Thirty four homes are currently being built in Evelyn Avenue for vulnerable and disabled Veterans to rent from Spring 2018.
Andrea Howlett, Stoll’s Director of Housing and Development said: “Given the shortage of appropriate housing for Veterans, we are inviting Veterans who need both housing and support to apply for a new home. The new purpose built accommodation will enable people who have served in the Armed Forces to rent an affordable place to live. People will also receive tailored support to meet their individual needs.”
