Read moreThe Veterans Pain Clinic is free of charge to all veterans who are able to provide proof of service. The costs will be covered by the Hospitals’ Military Grants Fund charity.
The consultant is Dr Dominic Aldington. Having served in the Royal Army Medical Corps he was the Subject Matter Expert in Pain to the Surgeon General and was responsible for organising pain relief from the point of injury until a casualty left the service.
Read moreA new home caring for disabled veterans in High Wycombe reached an important construction milestone when the ‘topping out’ ceremony marked the building reaching its full height. The Royal Star & Garter Homes welcomed distinguished guests including The Rt Hon The Earl Howe, Minister of State for Defence, and Air Chief Marshal of the Royal Air Force, Sir Stephen Hillier, who led the ceremony.
Sir Stephen Hillier was met by the Charity’s Chairman, Major General Tim Tyler, and Chairman of Wycombe Council, Councillor Suzanne Brown. Sir Stephen was invited to carry out the traditional Saxon ritual of anointing a yew tree branch attached to the last roof beam with wine, oil, corn and salt symbolising wisdom, liberty, prosperity and hospitality. The beam was then hoisted into its final position.

Read moreBrian Chapman is taking on the Hadrian’s wall cycle challenge to raise money for Military Charity Blesma, the Limbless Veterans.
Brian, 54, from Newark, served as an Army Sniper instructor in the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment. A motorbike accident seven years ago, which Brian cannot recall, led to Brian having to have his right leg amputated.”
Last year Brian climbed Mount Snowdon with his daughter to support the charity and not content with challenging himself just the once, he wanted to complete another.
Read moreSeven members of the UK team for the Invictus Games 2017 in Toronto headed to the Land Rover Experience Centre at Eastnor Castle, joined by Land Rover ambassadors Zara Tindall and Lewis Moody, to hone their skills on the legendary off-road tracks.
The Invictus Games is an international adaptive sporting event for wounded injured and sick servicemen and women, which was first held in London in 2014. This year’s Games kick off in Toronto on 23 September, with the Jaguar Land Rover Driving Challenge marking the first opportunity for all 17 competing nations to win a medal.
Read moreToday (27 July 2017) a new war memorial at Salford Royal was unveiled to commemorate the night that the hospital suffered fatalities during the Manchester Blitz of Christmas 1940. The Defence Medical Welfare Service (DMWS) and the Ex Forces Action Network (EFAN), had come together to replace the memorial with a new, larger one to be sited in the gardens at Ladywell Building. Despite the terrible weather the unveiling of the memorial plaque took place in a very positive atmosphere and was a wonderful ceremony celebrating commitment.
So far a small memorial plaque near the A&E Entrance commemorated six members of staff who died when a German parachute mine hit the then Hope Hospital on 23 December 1940.
