The January Job Hunt: New Service Aims to help Veterans Find a New Career Path

In Great Britain, just under a quarter of working age veterans are not in employment[1]. However, for the first time this January, Veterans who are looking for employment on ‘civvy street’ can take advantage of a new service, Veterans’ Gateway.

With statistics showing that this is the busiest week for searches for ‘jobs’ in the UK[2],‘Veterans’ Gateway’ is the first point of contact for veterans who need support when it comes to achieving their career potential.

The Legion invites the Nation to say ‘thank you’

To mark the final year of the World War One centenary, The Royal British Legion is inviting the public to take part in a movement to say ‘Thank You’ to the First World War generation who served, sacrificed and changed our world.

The charity is calling on the nation to remember not only the 1.2 million British and Commonwealth Armed Forces who lost their lives, but also those – military and civilian – who played their part on the home front and those who returned to build a better life for the benefit of generations to come.

Poppy Pekslot prepares for the PayPal Turkey Dash

The Royal British Legion is taking part in PayPal’s Turkey Dash, an animated charity campaign with Aardman and Channel 4. The Turkey Dash will see eight CGI charity turkeys take part in a prime time race, which will be broadcast on Channel 4 during the first ad break of Jamie and Jimmy’s Friday Night Feast, starting at 8pm on Friday 15th December.

The Trust and RBL help Rose come home

During a trip to Thailand to visit their son, Rose, Arthur and son David were involved in a horrific car accident which took the lives of Rose’s son and husband and left Rose with serious injuries.

Friends and family launched an appeal to raise funds so that Rose could be treated in Thailand. Rose spent 5 and half months in Bangkok Hospital, where she began to recover, but sadly there were no funds left to bring Rose back to the UK.

Aardman creates animated Turkey Dash for PayPal’s new Christmas campaign

Eight charities feature in an innovative digital race that encourages people to donate more to good causes this Christmas

PayPal has joined forces with Aardman and Channel 4 for a unique Christmas campaign that will boost donations to eight of the UK’s most loved charities. Turkey Dash will see an elite field of CGI turkeys – one representing each charity – undergo vigorous training powered by online donations from the charities’ supporters, climaxing in a prime time race broadcast on Channel 4 on Friday 15th December.

Military Community take to the stage for Remembrance Sunday performance

A unique collaboration of wounded, injured and sick Service personnel, veterans and their families from across the UK will take to the stage this weekend for a one-off Remembrance performance at the Newcastle Theatre Royal.

The Royal British Legion’s recovery through the arts initiative, Bravo 22 Company, is delivered in partnership with The Drive Project and in collaboration with Newcastle Theatre Royal to put on the production on Remembrance Sunday.

Poppy pup helping raise funds for Legion

A pup called Poppy, a two-year old Airedale terrier, has been helping her owner, Colin Stegeman collect for The Royal British Legion in the Shropshire village of Worthen.

Accompanying 82 year old, former RAF serviceman, Colin, on his rounds and home visits, Poppy the pup is a big hit with the villagers and even sports her very own specially fashioned poppy harness. A talking point for many of those living in the village, Poppy has been aiding Colin in selling poppies for this year’s Appeal, as well as helping her owner spread the word about the Legion’s work and its 2017 message – Rethink Remembrance.

Normandy veteran celebrates 100th birthday during Poppy Appeal

On the launch of this year’s Poppy Appeal, former Royal Engineer and Normandy veteran, Ron Trenchard celebrated his 100th birthday.

Born in Highbury, North London on 26th October 1917, Ron spent his milestone birthday with family and friends at a party organised for him by The Royal British Legion’s Galanos House staff where he now resides.

The son of an Army Clerk, Ron moved to Warwickshire with his family in 1937 and soon enlisted in The Royal Engineers at the age of 22 when war broke out.
