Read moreReporter Victoria Smith from SSVC’s Forces Welfare Media Team filmed recently with Rick McGillivray, a veteran helped out of homelessness by E-FAN, a Covenant-funded project run by the Defence Medical Welfare Service and the Cheshire & Greater Manchester Rehabilitation Company. Rick fondly remembers his Army career but no longer has any photos from the time. The Welfare Team helped him to appeal on social media and they’ve been overwhelmed by the response. Thanks to the video, Rick has been sent messages of support by friends he made in the Army and at school, as well as a number of photos.

Alison, who served in the Royal Air Force for 13 years, was chosen to join Gareth Malone’s Invictus Choir in 2016 and performed at the opening ceremony of the Invictus Games in Orlando, Florida last May.

The free Higher National Certificate (HNC) Media Production Course is for service leavers or veterans, and all students on the one-year course also receive a bursary of £18k.
The full-time course starts on 25th September 2017 and will run until July 2018 at SSVC’s headquarters in Buckinghamshire, so students will work with award-winning media teams alongside the programme of lectures.

Helyn Salt, 43, will be embarking on the challenge for the second time, having previously taken part last year. Helyn first came across Blind Veterans UK when her cousin, a Royal Marine of 17 years who also served in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers for eight years, introduced her to the organisation.
