FiMT’s Specialist Fellows on the Clore Social Leadership 2018 Experienced Leader Programme

Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT) is delighted to announce the five Specialist FiMT Fellows who have been selected to take part in the newly remodelled Clore Experienced Leader Programme.
Designed to fit around the needs of those with existing commitments, Clore Social’s Experienced Leader Programme is a one-year programme for professionals with 6-10 years’ experience as a social sector leader who wish to engage in sector wide leadership by developing their existing leadership skills.

Reading Force launch at Colinton Primary School with VIP Vivian French

On Wednesday 7th March Reading Force launched at Colinton Primary School, Edinburgh, with special guest author, Vivian French. Vivian has written 300 children’s books, including the The Cherry Pie Princess, the Knights in Training series, and most recently Robe of Skulls.

As well as giving the children an inspiring and fun day with a real-life author, the launch raised awareness of Reading Force, the shared reading charity for military families, and how children and families can get involved.

Director of Royal Navy & Royal Marines Childrens’ Fund to retire after 36 years

The Trustees of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Children’s Fund would like to announce that after 36 years dedicated service, our Director, Monique Bateman MBE will retire. She will be succeeded by our Assistant Director, Ms Clare Scherer, who will assume the appointment from 11 May 2018. The Trustees would like to express their gratitude to Monique for her years of exceptional, dedicated service. She will be sadly missed by staff, Trustees and, most particularly, by the many thousands of children and their families whose lives she has transformed.

University regulator publishes guidance encouraging universities to include Service children in their support and outreach work

The SCiP Alliance has worked closely with the new government regulatory body for higher education, the Office For Students and its predecessor OFFA, to ensure Service children are considered alongside other underrepresented groups when universities formulate their outreach plans with their Widening Participation teams. Work by the SCiP Alliance and its partners is referenced in new guidance published by the OFS to inform institutions’ planning for 2019-20.

Reading Force launches partnership with RAF Benevolent Fund at RAF High Wycombe

Reading Force, the shared reading charity for all UK military families, is pleased to announce a pilot to roll out its activity in five RAF Benevolent Fund Ben Clubs, with a special launch at RAF High Wycombe Ben Club this week.

The Reading Force charity encourages military families to share books, whether at home together or separated by deployments or training – in which case books can be read over the phone, Skype or FaceTime.

100th air cadet set to fly for RAF’s centenary year thanks to the RAF Association

The RAF Association is preparing to send its 100th air cadet flying, with its 2018 Flying Scholarship programme. Coinciding with the RAF centenary year, six air-minded youths will be awarded flight training including the 100th recipient of the Flying Scholarship. However, cadets’ keen to apply must hurry, the closing date for all entries is 31 January 2018.

Through the scholarship programme, air cadets are given the opportunity to take to the skies, with one air cadet awarded 35 hours flight training in a light aircraft. Five runners-up will each receive 12 hours.
