Paralympian Joe Townsend visits veterans’ mental health charity

Paralympian and former Royal Marine, Joe Townsend visited veterans’ mental health charity Combat Stress last week at their Surrey based treatment centre to hand over the funds he raised for the charity.

Joe got involved with Combat Stress last year after taking part in the #22PushupChallenge, a viral social media campaign that aimed to raise awareness and support for veterans’ mental health. Putting his own spin on the challenge Joe completed an alternative type of push-up, called planche push-ups and encouraged supporters to donate by adding an extra push-up for every donation. On the final day of the challenge Joe completed over 100 push-ups, a personal best.

Veterans’ Gateway will be the first point of contact for veterans and their families seeking support and aims to make finding the right support easier and quicker – no matter where you are or what you need.

Employment skills day with Alexander Mann Solutions

Yesterday, Stoll welcomed Alexander Mann Solutions, along with Walking With The Wounded and RFEA, to a skills day at Fulham Mansions. Around seven members of staff from Alexander Mann Solutions offered CV writing and interview preparation to support Veterans into employment. Over 25 Veterans attended the day and found it extremely helpful.

New Forces in Mind Trust Report: A Pilot Study to Support Veterans in the Criminal Justice System

A new report, identifying the challenges faced by ex-Service personnel who enter police custody and ways to better support them was released today (3 April) and has found that the ex-Serving personnel in this study who are identified at the point of contact in police custody have responded encouragingly to targeted support.

The report, ‘A Pilot Study to Support Veterans in the Criminal Justice System’, was funded by the Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT) and delivered by Anglia Ruskin University, to examine the engagement and impact of a pilot veteran intervention programme, Project Nova.

Help for Scottish soldiers struggling to adjust to civilian life

The volunteering charity TimeBank has been awarded a grant of £50,000 from ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, to support Scottish soldiers who are struggling to adjust to civilian life and reduce their risk of social and economic isolation.

Support for veterans funding boost for North East

A Charity which supports veterans and their families across the North East to move from social isolation into employment has received a cash boost of more than £100,000 to continue providing individual support to Army Veterans.

The grant comes from ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, the Army’s National Charity, and will enable Durham based, Finchale to continue their work with North East Veterans throughout 2017.

Finchale presents cheque to ABF The Soldiers’ Charity

Durham based charity Finchale’s CEO, Mel Pears MBE, presented a cheque for £355.06 to Lieutenant Colonel Barnbrook, Regional Director North East of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, at a ceremony at Finchale’s site in Pity Me on Thursday 23rd March 2017.

Finchale has worked with The Soldiers’ Charity over the past 2 years to provide tailored support to veterans from the North East of England to enable them to move from social exclusion to sustained employment.
