Research to improve delivery of the Armed Forces Covenant

Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT) has awarded £174,737 to Shared Intelligence and NatCen, to research how organisations, excluding Local Authorities and Government departments, are delivering pledges under the Armed Forces Covenant in Great Britain.

The decision to commission this research came about from the impact of FiMT’s Our Community-Our Covenant report and the desire to understand delivery of the Armed Forces Covenant more widely. Shared Intelligence, in partnership with NatCen, were appointed to deliver this research following a competitive tender process.

Applications open for 2018 Media Course at the Forces Media Academy

The Forces Media Academy is inviting applications from service leavers, veterans, and reservists to embark on a free one-year Higher National Certificate (HNC) Media Production Course.

The Academy, which is part of the Services Sound & Vision Corporation (SSVC), provides 15 ex-service personnel per year with the training, experience and qualifications they need to forge successful careers in the media, whether videography, digital, TV or radio.

OA Helps Service Leavers with Employment Symposium

On Tuesday 12th December, the OA held a national employment Symposium at Deloitte’s London headquarters.

Former and serving officers in the Armed Forces attended to gain insight into different sectors and industries, as well as key tips for a successful transition into civilian employment. The main talks were live streamed via social media, and people watched from across the UK and abroad, including Kuwait.

Escape the City – a leading global career change consultancy, which helps people find a career they love – gave the key note speech.

The Veterans’ Pain Clinic – Next appointments available Monday 12th February 2018

The Veterans Pain Clinic is free of charge to all veterans who are able to provide proof of service. The costs will be covered by the Hospitals’ Military Grants Fund charity.

The consultant is Dr Dominic Aldington. Having served in the Royal Army Medical Corps he was the Subject Matter Expert in Pain to the Surgeon General and was responsible for organising pain relief from the point of injury until a casualty left the service.

Seafarers Awareness Week 2018 Dates Confirmed

Seafarers Awareness Week (SAW) will be 23-30 June in 2018, the co-ordinating charity Seafarers UK has confirmed. It will embrace the IMO’s ‘Day of the Seafarer’ on 25 June.

The main promotional theme for SAW will be ‘Maritime Industry Jobs’ – at sea and ashore – with an emphasis on engineering, to coincide with the Government’s ‘Year of Engineering’ campaign

The sixth Armed Forces Covenant annual report has been presented to parliament, showing good progress on providing support for the Armed Forces Community.

The Covenant is a promise from the nation ensuring that those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, are treated fairly.

The Not Forgotten Association’s Christmas Party at St. James’s Palace

The annual Not Forgotten Association Christmas Party at St. James’s Palace signals the start of the festive season. It almost feels as though the State Apartments’ opulent, red and gold setting was designed specifically for Christmas celebrations, as it never fails to put everyone is a mood of great cheer and merriment. Those who visit leave feeling joyful with lasting memories made of a wonderful and very special afternoon.

This year was no exception as nearly 300 guests were hosted by HRH The Duchess of Gloucester, who took a considerable amount of time to meet and talk with many of those in attendance.
