Another brilliant Troop Aid ball!

The atmosphere was electric when over 350 guests gathered at the National Conference Centre, home of the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull for Troop Aid’s highest profile event of the year, the Annual Ball. A registered charity, Troop Aid’s patron is HRH The Prince of Wales.

All were greeted upon arrival by a guard of honour. From young Sea Cadets to current military personnel, from members of the Royal British Legion to a Chelsea Pensioner, the evening appealed to everyone who was keen to support the Midlands based charity that supports our injured service troops.

Mental Health First Aid is for everyone

You would probably know what to do if your colleague became physically ill. But would you know what to do if someone suffered from poor mental health?

Approximately 10 million work days are lost in the UK due to poor mental health, costing the UK economy around £100 billion each year. This problem is not restricted to the workplace as on average 3 children in every classroom have a mental health issue.

We at DMWS Training therefore believe that every workplace, including schools, should have a Mental Health First Aider as well as a physical First Aider.

Who is TFT for? All regular and reserve personnel currently serving in the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force and anyone who has been medically discharged or war widowed since 2001.

Lincolnshire Man Runs Marathon

Last weekend Paul Bennett from Grantham completed the Rutland Marathon to raise funds for The Not Forgotten Association. He was inspired to take up this challenge by the support the Association has given to his brother John, a former Royal Navy engineer who suffers from a neurological disorder.

Paul said: “John has always been an inspiration to me with his athletic exploits, including ultra-running events. The NFA has been a positive support through John’s illness and I’ve always wanted to help them, so the marathon seemed a fitting tribute. This was the first time that I’d ran further than 20 miles. Being a 16-stone former rugby player and the wear and tear associated with that didn’t help.”

Majorca Holiday Provides Welcome Respite

This week another group of injured service men and women – many with their partners – have been staying at a remote farmhouse in Majorca on a respite break. The holiday has provided a very welcome opportunity for each of them to relax and for the couples to spend some quality time together.

Away from the pressures of rehabilitation, work and family commitments, our beneficiaries have been able to unwind and enjoy some ‘me time’ in the beautiful surroundings. For one veteran this week is the first time he has been away anywhere since being injured in Afghanistan.
