Blind veteran gardener from Berkhamsted visits military charity’s Hampton Court show garden

A blind veteran from Berkhamsted who receives vital support from Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, has visited the charity’s gold medal-winning show garden at the prestigious RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show this July.

Stanley Grace, 88 and from Northchurch, visited the garden as part of a special week of gardening activities for blind veterans with green fingers held at the Blind Veterans UK training and rehabilitation centre in Brighton.

Blind veteran from Norwich welcomes visitors to military charity’s Hampton Court show garden

A blind veteran from Norwich who receives vital support from Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, visited the charity’s show garden at the prestigious RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show last week.

Chris Humphrey, 65 and from Thorpe End, volunteered as an ambassador for Blind Veterans UK and encouraged anyone who could receive support from the charity to get in touch.

After joining the Royal Navy in 1967, Chris was first employed as a Junior Radio Operator on HMS Raleigh. He says: “I completed my initial training on HMS Raleigh, before completing my Branch Training on HMS Mercury.

Blind veteran from Wigan receives prestigious medal for helping liberate France from the Nazis

A blind veteran from Wigan has been formally presented with the Chevalier de l’Ordre National de la Legion d’Honneur for his part in the liberation of France.

Dennis Clements, 92 and from Orrell, was presented with the prestigious honour in front of friends and family in Llandudno, North Wales by French Honorary Consul, Mrs Aude Auclair. The ceremony was arranged and organised by Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, from whom Dennis receives support.

Exeter man to climb Everest Base Camp with blind friend 

A Senior enabler from Exeter is preparing to climb Everest Base Camp with a blind colleague, with part of the money raised going to Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Steve Parfit, 45 and from Exminster, will be attempting the 17,600ft climb on February 1, with the entire trek expected to take 17 days. He says: “To be honest I’m not really sure why I signed up to it! I am excited, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t pretty nervous too!”

Darren Blanks, 30 and from Egremont, met Her Royal Highness at the charity’s show garden at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show. The garden, titled ‘It’s all about community’, was one of three show gardens to receive a prestigious gold medal.

Blind veteran gardener from Newtown to be featured in military charity’s Hampton Court show garden

A blind veteran from Newtown who has received vital support from Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, will be contributing to the charity’s show garden at the prestigious RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show this July.

Andy Rae, 77 and originally from Hackney, has made a miniature garden for the flower show, titled Garden Towers, which won the award for the Most Creative Miniature Garden at the charity’s recent gardening week held at their training and rehabilitation centre in Llandudno.
