Restorative approach to community based mental health support explored for ex-Service personnel and their families

Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT) has awarded Tros Gynnal Plant funds of £284,427 to enable them to pilot a three-year trial of a community based mental health support service for ex-Service personnel and their families from Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, who have a Service-related mental health problem.

Tros Gynnal Plant, a Wales based charity focusing on Children, young people and families, will work alongside the current Veterans NHS Wales (VNHSW) service to help ex-Service personnel who have been referred to the VNHSW.

SSAFA adopted families celebrate Christmas at 10 Downing Street

Christmas came early on Monday, when the doors of 10 Downing Street were opened for a special Children’s Party.

Joining the festive celebrations were two military families who adopted through SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

Attendees included an Army veteran and his partner and a RAF family. Both couples adopted two siblings, a boy and a girl in 2014 and have continued to be supported by SSAFA’s Post-Adoption Support service. The children are aged 7, 8, 9 and 10 years old.

Princess Royal Commends Supporters of the RNRMC at London Reception

The hard work and commitment of Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) supporters was celebrated with a presentation by Her Royal Highness Princess Anne.

As the national charity of the Royal Naval Service, the RNRMC is reliant upon a vital network of loyal supporters who help ensure it achieves its charitable goals.

The Supporters Reception, hosted at Trinity House in London, celebrated the commitment undertaken by the charity’s volunteers, fundraisers and corporate sponsors.

As Patron of the RNRMC, HRH Princess Anne was in attendance to award a select group of supporters with framed achievement certificates that recognised their individual efforts.

Awards Judges have reviewed the nominations for the 2018 Soldiering On Awards.

The Soldiering On Awards independent panel have deliberated over the many nominations received across 12 Awards categories including 3 new business awards in partnership with X-Forces.

Soldiering On Awards President and Co-Chair of Judges General the Lord Dannatt GCB CBE MC DL said, “The Soldiering On Awards enable all areas of our community to come together and recognise outstanding achievements in support of the Armed Forces Community. What a privilege to have judged the Awards winners from such a rich list of nominations – all winners in their own way!”

Appointment of new CEO, Paul Gaffney, Defence Medical Welfare Service

DMWS is delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Gaffney as the new CEO of the Defence Medical Welfare Service, replacing Nicky Murdoch MBE who will be stepping down after six remarkably successful years as CEO.

Paul, who has been with DMWS for the past two and a half years, has taken over as CEO as of 1st of December 2017. He brings commitment, dedication, commercial and business skills to the organisation at a time of change and growth. He will be driving the company to the next level, building on the excellent growth and momentum achieved under Nicky’s leadership.

Brief on the forthcoming NHS veterans’ mental health complex treatment service

NHS England will shortly announce the providers of the forthcoming veterans’ mental health complex treatment service (VMH CTS) that will launch on 1 April 2018.
In preparation for this announcement, we would like to remind colleagues of the purpose of the VMH CTS, which is to provide an enhanced service for veterans who have military attributable complex mental health problems, many of whom will have experienced trauma, which have not been resolved earlier in the care/support pathway.

Does the Army Families’ ‘Offer’ meet the needs of the modern Army family?

The Army Families Federation (AFF) is appealing to all Army families to take their latest survey and say whether they feel the package offered to them eases the impact that Service life can have. The charity is exploring various elements of the current package, or ‘Offer’ available to families, and how they translate to Army family life. This includes how aware families are of policies such as subsidised military housing, educational allowances, and healthcare policies such as support with assisted conception.
