Awards Judges have reviewed the nominations for the 2018 Soldiering On Awards.

The Soldiering On Awards independent panel have deliberated over the many nominations received across 12 Awards categories including 3 new business awards in partnership with X-Forces.

Soldiering On Awards President and Co-Chair of Judges General the Lord Dannatt GCB CBE MC DL said, “The Soldiering On Awards enable all areas of our community to come together and recognise outstanding achievements in support of the Armed Forces Community. Wiltshire Based Veteran Leads New Campaign to Highlight OA’s Work

Bryony Fuller, one of the first female officers to graduate from RAF College Cranwell, is leading a new campaign encouraging Service leavers and their dependants to contact the OA for assistance should they need advice or financial help.

The Wiltshire based former officer broke her neck, back and spinal cord after she fell down the stairs, an accident that left her paralysed on the floor for 30 hours. Bryony spent 12 weeks in the Intensive Care Unit followed by nine months recovering on a spinal injury ward.

Interview with Sophie Maynard, Forces Media Academy Student

The OA spoke to Sophie Maynard about studying Creative Media Production.

Tell me about your Service history
I joined the Royal Navy in November 2014, and became a Warfare Officer. I left as a Sub Lieutenant in October 2017.

What is the Forces Media Academy?
The Academy is for Service leavers and veterans wanting to work in the media, including television, film, radio, digital and marketing. It launched in September 2017 and offers a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Creative Media Production.

Career Consultant Becomes Army Reserve Officer

Graeme Taylor, a freelance career consultant for the OA, recently commissioned.

Graeme had a long career in the Army as a Royal Engineer. In the latter part of his regular career he focused on outdoor education and performance coaching, before leaving to start his own business as an executive coach and management consultant. Graeme has worked with many high profile organisations, including Ernst & Young, Carillion, Ministry of Defence, NHS and the Home Office.

Update from Supporting Wounded Veterans

LIBOR: SWV are extremely grateful to the LIBOR fund for granting them their full funding application for £1,054,800. The grant will finance their Pain Management Programme for a further three years.

SWV Ski Week: SWV have now completed their Veteran interviews for their 2018 Ski Week, and have selected 26 Veterans (out of 180 applications) to join their Skihabiliation programme next March.

Carol Concert: On 4th December, SWV held their first Carol Concert at St Peter’s Church, Eaton Sq. With over 500 tickets sold and a waiting list of over 100, they are happy to announce that this will now become an annual event.

All funds raised from his new Christmas single, ‘Footprints in the Snow’, will go towards supporting ex-service personnel. WWTW hope the military community will get behind Jamie’s single in a bid to secure the number 1 spot this Christmas and support those who need it most.

Deptherapy is pleased to announce two major expeditions 2018 together with the team selection for each expedition 

The first to Roots Red Sea in Egypt is the largest expedition to date and is aimed at new divers who will undertake their PADI Open Water courses and also a number of divers who are part of the Deptherapy continuing education programme.

In August the charity undertakes its most challenging expedition, thus far, by taking 14 WIS veterans to dive Chuuk Lagoon, widely regarded as the best wreck diving site in the world. The selection process has been rigorous and based on diving ability and commitment to personal development through the continuing education programme.

Former Minister of State for the Armed Forces and current MP for Rayleigh and Wickford attended the weekly session

On Thursday 30th November, the Southend Veterans’ Club welcomed Mark Francois, Conservative MP for Rayleigh and Wickford.

The visit was part of Mark’s ongoing commitment and personal interest in the military community, which he is closely affiliated with.
