It’s now just over six months since the soft launch, please see below an update on the progress of Veterans’ Gateway and what is coming next for the service.
Veterans’ Gateway so far…
Since the soft launch on 03 April 2017, 1,143 telephone calls have been made to the Veterans’ Gateway helpline which have led to 419 referrals to 19 different partners. There have been 110,000 website sessions (71% of which are new users) with 686 users using the ‘ask a question’ function and 496 live chats taking place.

Read moreA blind veteran from County Durham has completed the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women, after it supported him following his sight loss.
David Cranson, 63, competed in what was his 23rd fundraising challenge for the charity since joining in June 2007. David, who suffers from bilateral optic atrophy, says: “The London crowds were as fantastic as ever. People were recognising the name on my vest and the support was endless. My guide, James, even said he was astonished at the number of people shouting for me!

Sam Beeston, 89 and originally from Stoke-on-Trent, says that his passion for art began at the earliest of ages. He explains: “I can’t have been more than eight years old when it began. Our education system was vastly different to how it is today, so when I took my 11 plus exams I actually went to the Burslem School of Art.
“Of course, they taught all the usual subjects; maths, geography and everything else. But for me, it was always centred around art; so it wasn’t history so much as it was history of art!”

For the second year running organisers from Finchale are extending a ‘hot’ invitation to diners to join them for a bit of fun and a relaxed opportunity to enjoy some fantastic food whilst making a difference. All proceeds from the event will go to ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, the National Charity of the British Army providing support to soldiers, veterans and their families.
