Luke crowned People’s Choice winner at Soldiering On Awards

RAF veteran and Invictus athlete Luke Delahunty has been crowned this year’s People’s Choice award winner at the Soldiering On Awards. Luke was announced as this year’s winner at the special event held in London which recognises the achievements of those who have served their country and the diverse people and groups who work in support of the Armed Forces community.

The RAF’s leading welfare charity, the RAF Benevolent Fund, who has supported Luke for more than 22 years, nominated him for this prestigious award in light of his outstanding contribution to other spinal injury victims.

Calling Notice – Cenotaph Remembrance Parade 11th November 2018 – Headley Court Charity

The Headley Court Charity was established in 1940 and in 1947 decided to acquire the estate at Headley Court in Surrey for the purpose of providing a facility for the medical rehabilitation of pilots and aircrew of the Royal Air Force. The facility opened in 1949 and the objects of the charity have since expanded to provide medical rehabilitation for all members of the armed forces.

This year the clinical facility will move to a new purpose built facility at Stanford Hall in the East Midlands and the MOD will vacate Headley Court.

Veterans’ mental health charity Combat Stress to host business symposium

The power and potential of veterans in the workplace is the focus of this year’s free-to-attend Military Mind business symposium.

Sponsored by Thales and presented by Combat Stress, the UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health, the symposium will explore practical ways companies can ensure the workplace wellbeing of their veteran and reservist employees.

Held on 15 May in London and 17 May in Edinburgh, the event coincides with Mental Health Awareness Week and will centre on what support companies can implement, regardless of their size or sector.

Defence Secretary launches first ever Veterans Strategy and new cross-Government Veterans Unit

Veterans’ homelessness, loneliness, debt problems, and mental health issues will be tackled by the first ever Government Veterans Strategy, announced today by Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson.

The ground-breaking strategy has been commissioned by the Defence Secretary and today it will be confirmed that a new Veterans Unit with input from across Whitehall will be created.

The Veterans Unit will champion the changing needs of the ex-service community and ensure action is taken to meet these.

DMWS proud winner of the Soldiering On Award 2018

In recognition of the charity’s commitment to support the Armed Forces community in the UK and abroad, the Defence Medical Welfare Service (DMWS) has been awarded this year’s Soldiering on Award in the International Award category.

DMWS is rich in international history. Dedicated welfare officers have deployed to every major conflict since WW2 including Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo and The Falklands to name but a few, working alongside our medical staff in the Field Hospitals. To this day, the Charity supports injured and ill service personnel, veterans, their family members, colleagues and medical personnel through extremely difficult times with the aim to improve the wellbeing of those affected by a physical or mental illness.

New Manor Camp Centre to provide quality facilities for families of Royal Marines

A grant of over £30,000 has been awarded for the Royal Marines Families and Welfare Centre in Taunton by the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).

The grant, which has been distributed by the national charity of the Royal Navy, will enable the centre to complete the interior with comfortable furnishings and equipment.

Set to be officially opened later this year, the Norton Manor Camp Families Centre will provide a high quality facility for the Royal Marines service families within the Taunton area.
