The Royal Star & Garter Homes Launches Day Care Service for Local Veterans

The Royal Star & Garter Homes has launched a day care service, the ‘Star & Garter Club’. The service welcomes tri-service veterans of HM Armed Forces and their partners to the Charity’s award-winning Solihull Home.

The Charity has drawn upon its wealth of experience in providing outstanding residential care to establish a complete day care package. The service will enable veterans access to the wide range of activities and therapies on offer at the Home as well as a host of other benefits on a daily basis.

Forces families celebrate the joys of adopting through SSAFA

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is celebrating National Adoption Week with an animation featuring success stories of its military adopters.

The animation features the stories of two children showing what life is like living in a military family which looks to help dispel the myths of military adoption.

These myths include concerns around the lack of stability due to regular postings or deployment, military families may be over disciplined or lack the structure of a 9-5 working parent.

Cadogan Hall concert to raise money for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity

L’Orchestre du Monde is holding a fundraising concert at Cadogan Hall in London to raise money for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

Tickets are on sale now for the performance on Tuesday 17 October with some of the finest international musicians coming together to support the Armed Forces community.

The money raised by L’Orchestre du Monde will help SSAFA to continue to provide lifelong support to serving personnel, veterans and their families.

L’Orchestre du Monde is a unique ensemble brought together by renowned Polish conductor Janusz Piotrowicz.

Forces in Mind Trust provides grant funding to Anglia Ruskin University to develop and operate a UK-based facility for easy access to UK and international research on veterans and their families

Policy makers, professionals and members of the public with an interest in ex-Service personnel and their families will be among those to benefit from a new research centre set up specifically to support the research needs of the Armed Forces Community, which launches this week.

Scottish Veterans benefit from additional Welfare Support provided by DMWS

DMWS Scotland is delighted to have teams embedded within NHS Trusts in Ayrshire, Fife, Grampian and Lanarkshire to ensure that older veterans and their families have access to the very best of welfare support, when faced with hospitalisation or when receiving medical treatment.

Together with 13 other organisations, DMWS plays a key role in the “Unforgotten Forces” consortium, led by Poppyscotland, to improve the lives of those who have served the country. This three-year project has been funded by the Aged Veterans Fund to deliver a range of new services and enhancements in areas including advice, access to healthcare, social isolation, respite, along with entertainment and therapeutic programmes for those living in care homes.

Royal Navy Ski Team’s Valiant World Record Attempt Raises Vital Money for Charity

A fearless group of Royal Navy skiers have completed a gruelling 24-hour world record attempt in order to raise money for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).

The team took to the Gloucester Dry Ski Slope on Thursday 28th September with the aim of skiing from 5pm to 5pm the next day. The distance that the group aimed to ski would break the world record for distance skied on an artificial slope.

Despite initial problems with the ski slope’s drag lift, the Royal Navy skiers got off to a flying start on the Thursday evening. Supported on their first leg by Paralympic skier Millie Knight and her guide, Royal Marine, Brett Wild, the team were given amazing encouragement as they carved into the night.

South London Military Wives Choir sing at The Poppy Factory Christmas Concert

The UK’s leading employment charity for disabled veterans, The Poppy Factory, will hold a one off magical evening of Christmas carols sung by the South London Military wives choir on Wednesday 13th December 2017.

The ‘Carols at Christmas’ concert, taking place in St Mary’s Church, Twickenham, will be hosted by Jazz FM & BBC Radio’s Jamie Crick.

The evening will also include readings from Poppy Factory clients and supporters and will be followed by a festive reception of wine and mince pies.

The Big Sleep at Stonehenge

Alabaré were delighted to be working in collaboration with English Heritage for the second year at the world-renowned Stonehenge. After last year’s huge success, they were privileged to yet again host a BIG SLEEP at the iconic venue. In the grounds of arguably the most famous prehistoric monument on the planet. Over 100 people from the local military community slept out, over night at the Stonehenge visitor centre on Friday 13th October.

Those sleeping out were from local Armed Forces camps, employees and families of Sodexo Defence and other defence contractors.
