Fantastic £5000 donation from The Jive Aces

Long-time supporters of the NFA, The Jive Aces, raised an astonishing £5000 for the Association through their record-breaking Summertime Swing concert in August 2017. Chief Executive James Stopford was thrilled to be presented with the cheque, at the NFA HQ in Victoria, by nearly the whole band. We are thrilled that this year’s Summertime Swing will once again be raising money for The NFA.

Armed Forces Covenant Awards £20,000 Grant to Alabaré’s Homes for Veterans Wales

Alabaré, the charity behind Homes for Veterans England and Wales, are delighted to have been awarded £20,000 towards costs of our Homes for Veterans Wales from the Armed Forces Covenant.

Alabaré’s Homes for Veterans Wales offers support to ex-Service men and women across Wales who have left active service and who are experiencing difficulty adapting to civilian life. These former service personnel are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, usually due to lack of support network and social isolation after discharge.

North Yorkshire veteran to take on fourth 100km challenge for military charity

A veteran from North Yorkshire is currently training to compete in a 100km walk from London to Brighton for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for blind and vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Mark Sullivan, 60 and from York, will be attempting the mammoth challenge for the fourth time, having previously completed both the 100k London to Brighton and the 100k Yorkshire. He also completed half of the 100k London to Brighton one year. He explains: “I just love the whole event. It’s a superb charity and very important to me that I’m able to support the blind and vision-impaired veterans of our country.

Ski you later: Buckinghamshire blind veteran hits the slopes thanks to national military charity

A blind veteran from Buckinghamshire has been skiing in Canazei, Italy, with other vision-impaired Armed Forces veterans, thanks to national military charity Blind Veterans UK.

Carl Williams, 46 and from High Wycombe, skied in the Dolomites mountain range with 24 other vision-impaired skiers as part of the charity’s 41st annual ski trip. Carl learned to ski 14 years ago with the support of Blind Veterans UK and has helped organise the event since 2013, when he joined the veteran-led ski trip committee.

Married couple from North Yorkshire to take on 100km challenge for military charity

A married couple from North Yorkshire are training to complete a 100 kilometre walk in the Yorkshire dales for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Ruth and David Fisher, from Birstwith, were inspired to sign up to the ultra-challenge after meeting a group of walkers who were themselves competing in last year’s walk. Ruth, 49, explains: “We were out walking our dog on a path that’s used by the 100k Yorkshire, when we met and chatted to a few of the participants. Some of the group were actually blind veterans, which David and I just found incredibly inspirational. 100km is no ordinary undertaking, especially if you’re vision impaired. Yet that determination and positivity of these men was awe-inspiring!”

OA Launches Hon Reps Roadshow

Some of the OA’s network of volunteers attended the first in a series of roadshows in London.

The Honorary Representatives (Hon Reps) provide a crucial link with beneficiaries. They visit applicants in their home to understand their situation, across the UK and overseas. The information is then passed to the Benevolence Team in London, which assesses their needs and organises the support required.

How Jaguar Land Rover Supports Veterans

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has a long history of supporting the British Military, and is committed to helping ex-Service personnel transition into successful civilian careers.

The car manufacturer signed the British Armed Forces Military Covenant in 2014, and was official partner of the first Invictus Games in London and subsequent events in Orlando (2016) and Toronto (2017).

JLR works with the Career Transition Partnership (CTP) to provide insight days and work experience opportunities for Service personnel.
