RAF nursery formally opened by Lady Hillier with help from RAF charity

The Rainbow Centre childcare facility at RAF Marham officially opened an extension to the building this week enabling them to care for more children on a day to day basis.

In 2016 it became apparent that the Rainbow Centre would need to have an extension built due to the increased demand following the introduction of increased free childcare funding from 15 hours to 30 hours. The Rainbow Centre, rated as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, provides full and part time childcare for more than 400 children from RAF Marham and the surrounding area and employs over 70 staff.

NHS Veterans’ Mental Health Complex Treatment Service

As plans progress to launch the new Veterans’ Mental Health Complex Treatment Service (VMH CTS) across England on 1 April 2018, NHS England has appointed the following providers:

-Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (covering Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and the South West of England)
-Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust (covering South East of England and London)
-Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (covering the North of England).
The provider(s) for the Midlands and East of England will be announced over the next few weeks.

Research to improve delivery of the Armed Forces Covenant

Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT) has awarded £174,737 to Shared Intelligence and NatCen, to research how organisations, excluding Local Authorities and Government departments, are delivering pledges under the Armed Forces Covenant in Great Britain.

The decision to commission this research came about from the impact of FiMT’s Our Community-Our Covenant report and the desire to understand delivery of the Armed Forces Covenant more widely. Shared Intelligence, in partnership with NatCen, were appointed to deliver this research following a competitive tender process.

The employer toolkit provides information on all aspects of employing reservists. This includes: an outline of the benefits of employing reservists; guidance for line managers on how to manage reservists; managing requests regarding time off for training; details of rights and responsibilities, and financial assistance for employers and guidance and actions for when a reservist is mobilised, demobilised and returns to work.

RAF Marham Flyers hit fundraising heights at New Year’s Eve run

The RAF Marham Flyers Running Club hosted its annual New Year’s Eve 10k and saw a record turnout of 219 runners. Held in aid of the RAF Benevolent Fund, donations from fundraisers taking part totalled more than £3,400.

Although there was a lot of surface water on the airfield following the previous day’s record rainfall, the damp, windy conditions did nothing to put off people from taking part to help support the RAF’s leading welfare charity.

RAF charity’s £34,000 grant means disabled veteran had Christmas in comfort

Former RAF telecoms operator Ian Park says works to adapt his home and ensure he can live on one floor have ‘changed his life’.

The RAF Benevolent Fund stepped in to meet the shortfall in local authority funding needed to adapt Ian’s home in Sudbury and enable him to continue living there with his wife and teenaged son.
