Read moreThe Aged Veterans Fund, funded by the Chancellor using LIBOR funds have awarded Alabaré’s Homes for Veterans a grant of £169,385 over a period of 2 years. The money will be used to provide supported accommodation to Aged Veterans, those who are 65+ and vulnerable.

Here is an excerpt from the Executive summary of a short ‘think piece’ by the Scottish Veterans Commissioner on key health issues for the veterans community. No recommendations contained but early conclusions on key issues:
The vast majority of veterans in Scotland are in relatively good health and lead happy and productive lives.
On those occasions when they need access to health or social care services, they rarely report obvious disadvantage when compared to the non-veterans population and are content with the support they receive.
Alabaré are delighted to welcome Kenneth Kwogyenga as the new Gloucestershire Homes for Veterans Team Leader and Harrison Buttress as new Team Leader in Bristol Homes for Veterans.
Kenneth has been working with Alabaré for almost 4 years as one of the housing support workers at Homes for Veterans Gloucestershire. Originally, from Ghana, Kenny served in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. He left after a tour of Afghanistan to pursue a new career, and found himself working for Alabaré’s Homes for Veterans, helping homeless Veterans in need.
Read moreFrom the 1st August 2017, military veteran Chris Lewis will be embarking on an epic journey to walk the entire UK coastline – with all proceeds raised being donated to SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.
Chris will be starting his adventure on Llangennith Beach in Wales, before heading north into Scotland and then back down the east coast and across the south coast.
Far from being a walk in the park, Chris will be embarking on his challenge with absolutely zero funds, and will be relying on the goodwill of both the public and local businesses to supply him with all the food, water, accommodation and equipment he needs for each leg of his journey.
Read moreOn Monday 24th July Alabaré’s Gloucestershire Homes for Veterans welcomed the new High Sheriff of Gloucestershire, Lt Col Andrew Tabor JP, and his wife Lou to the home.
They met with a number of the Veterans, and having served as a Commissioned Officer in the British Army, Lt Col Tabor was able to connect and speak warmly with the residents within the home. Colonel (Retd) Ian Harris (Chairman of the Gloucestershire Ambassadors – Homes for Veterans, Alabaré) accompanied the visit as well as Major Charles Malet.

Read moreAlabaré is pleased to announce that John Hunter has joined the charity as a trustee. John served for 29 years in the Army as an artillery officer, during which time he served in Europe, Canada, USA, Zimbabwe and Indonesia. Latterly he was, for 10 years, a director and Chief Executive, of a medium size charity offering soldiers opportunities to achieve vocational and educational qualifications to enhance their military career prospects and prepare them for their next career. John is also a volunteer with the Harnham Water Meadows Trust.
Read morePlans have been unveiled for a £12.5m Veterans Care Village at Broughton House in Salford.
Broughton House is the only home for ex-servicemen and women in the north west and in 2016 celebrated its centenary.
Plans for the new village will be submitted to Salford City Council this month and are expected to be considered by the planning, building and regeneration committee in September.
If permission is granted, work on the ambitious scheme is due to start early next year. A public consultation exercise is currently underway.

In the presence of His Excellency, the Governor of Gibraltar, Lt Gen Edward Davis CB, CBE, KStJ and Commander British Forces Commodore Michael Walliker OBE RN. In addition to the regular congregation, as the service coincided with the WRNS 100th Anniversary event in Gibraltar, there were many retired WRNS in King’s Chapel together with servicewomen currently in Gibraltar.
