New Forces in Mind Trust Report: Optimising the infrastructure in place to support the needs of veterans in Northern Ireland

A new report examining the support and service provision to the veteran population in Northern Ireland (NI), funded by the Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT), was released today, 23 June 2017, by Ulster University. The report calls for the infrastructure in place to support veterans in NI to be better embedded in policy-making and statutory service delivery networks.

‘Supporting and Serving Military Veterans in Northern Ireland’ is the first output of the Northern Ireland Veterans’ Health and Wellbeing Study (NIVHWS); a large scale study into the health and wellbeing of NI veterans.

Stoll announces new funding to mark Armed Forces Day

Stoll, the leading provider of supported housing for Veterans in the greatest need, has received £12,000 from the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund to help promote independent living for ex-RAF servicemen and women. Alongside the housing Stoll provides, the charity offers a unique combination of health, wellbeing and employment support to vulnerable and disabled ex-Servicemen and women to help them live as independently as possible. Stoll will use the funding to support elderly and disabled Veterans and their dependents, enabling them to remain in the comfort of their own home. This includes providing domestic support such as helping with washing and cleaning.

Army Veteran celebrates re-opening Fulham café

The Veterans’ Kitchen at Stoll on the Fulham Road is re-opening today after a facelift selling a great range of breakfasts, salt beef bagels and summer snacks. The café is run solely by Stoll Veterans giving people a chance to gain new skills and training when they leave the Armed Forces.

The Veterans’ Kitchen is run by Army Veteran Ian Camps who served in Northern Ireland and in Cyprus. When he left the Forces he became homeless before getting a home to rent with Stoll in West London. He then re-trained as a chef and now leads a team of staff and volunteers at the café.

Stoll announces housing criteria for 34 new homes in Aldershot

Stoll, the leading provider of supported housing for Veterans, has published housing criteria for Veterans interested in moving into brand new accommodation in Aldershot. Thirty four homes are currently being built in Evelyn Avenue for vulnerable and disabled Veterans to rent from Spring 2018.

Andrea Howlett, Stoll’s Director of Housing and Development said: “Given the shortage of appropriate housing for Veterans, we are inviting Veterans who need both housing and support to apply for a new home. The new purpose built accommodation will enable people who have served in the Armed Forces to rent an affordable place to live. People will also receive tailored support to meet their individual needs.”

Help 4 Homeless Veterans CEO and Chairman of Trustees visit Rotherham Mayor

Steve Bentham-Bates CEO and Doncaster Councillor John Healy Chair of Trustees of Help 4 Homeless Veterans met up with Councillor Eve Rose Keenan and her husband consort Pat at a tea held for veterans and took the opportunity to view the memorial painting of Rotherham Soldier Sgt Ian Mckay VC Parachute Regiment who died during the Falklands War 35 years this month.

Veterans Aid joins Euro-Stakeholders to stand up for homeless

A Veterans Aid team joined homelessness experts from throughout Europe at the Annual FEANTSA Policy Conference in Poland.

More than 350 individuals including frontline service providers, academics, advocates, local, national and European policy-makers working in the homelessness and related sectors participated in the event held in the historic European Solidarity Centre in Gdansk.
